Mlynky    Map    Google Map

The village consists of former mining settlements Mlynky, Palcmanská Maša, Prostredný Hámor, Biele Vody, Havrania dolina (Raven Valley), Rakovec, Sykavka - all situated in the valley of the Hnilec river. Mainly iron and copper ore was mined in the mines in this region.
At the beginning of the 19-th century businessmen Leopold and Samuel Palcman built a high-temperature furnace in the Palcmanská Maša village. One of the most important mines was in the settlement Biele Vody. The factory processing the ore operated till 1963. In 1966 the mining business was stopped there. Nowadays, Mlynky is an important winter sport center in the Slovak Paradise. There are several ski-tows on the northern slopes of the Kruhová Hill and in the Biele Vody Valley, where you can find standard cross-country ski runs, too.
Ján Nálepka (one of the leaders of the Slovak guerrillas during the Slovak National Uprising in 1944), worked in the Mlynky - Biele Vody settlement in 1931-1933 as a teacher. A tablet is placed on the building of the former school. The waterfalls in the Zejmarská roklina (Zejmarská Gorge) were named after him.
